More and more patients are looking for non-invasive, long-lasting and reliable solutions for the replacement of old fillings made of amalgam (“the black fillings”) as well as extensive carious surfaces. They want an immediate solution, with aesthetics and without the need for extensive extraction of the tooth or its endodontic treatment.
Inlays and inlays are manufactured by the collaborating laboratory, either from porcelain or acrylic resin of high aesthetics and durability. Practical and simplistic, they are “seals” which, however, are manufactured after a detailed impression of the cavity.
It is the solution of choice for relatively large lesions of the chewing surface in posterior teeth. Their use is the best solution when, on the one hand, we want to preserve the existing dental tissues – that is, not to choose the case as a solution – and, on the other hand, when the extent of the damage does not allow safe restoration with a seal.
Their welding, in the specially shaped cavity, is done by the dentist with special resistant powders. It is worth noting that proper construction and bonding of an inlay/inlay ensures resistance to bacterial attack (micropenetration), which is a frequent problem in extensive fillings.
