During the second cleaning, the situation is re-evaluated and depending on the findings, the next cleaning is planned (in approximately 4 months). What is ulcerative gingivitis? What are the symptoms and what is the treatment?
It is an inflammatory disease that affects the free gums and causes ulcers and eventually necrosis and destruction of the interdental papillae. During the acute phase (which lasts about ten days) lymphadenitis, strong bad breath, fever and malaise can be observed. The disease is due to the existence of specific microbes in the oral cavity, however there are other factors that contribute to its appearance such as stress, problems with the patient’s physical condition, smoking and general illnesses. Particular attention has been paid in recent years to the association of necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis with AIDS. The acute manifestation of the disease is in absolute correlation with the existence of chronic gingivitis due to the accumulation of plaque.
Treatment during the acute phase includes administration of antibiotics and antiseptic mouthwash. If it is tolerated by the patient, surface cleaning is also performed. After 2-3 days, the teeth are normally cleaned and the patient starts oral hygiene with a soft toothbrush.
How much does gingivitis treatment cost? Is the price the same in each case?
The price, as in most dental treatments, is not fixed and this is because every case is different, but to have a price range, the treatment of gingivitis in our office starts from €80.
